To chris who said that "the city would be using their tax dollars to build the streetcar." Did you even read anything about the streetcar proposal? If you did you would know that NOT A SINGLE DIME of the proposed funding is coming from anyone's taxes!
This is the kind of ignorant thinking that gets this city into trouble. Issue 9 will make Cincinnati a laughing stock as we'll be the only city in the NATION to have such restrictive language in its charter regarding passenger rail. Go ahead and vote yes on nine, history will show how stupid you were for doing it!

If you need more information about the candidates for Cincinnati mayor, you can visit the nonpartisan site http://www.whatdotheystandfor.org. All of the information on the site comes from the candidates themselves, without any spin.

I'd have to disagree. I say vote yes to allow the people to have their say on the issue, especially when the city would be using their tax dollars to build the streetcar. I understand your point and agree to a certain extent but how likely is it that Mallory will be defeated? I support Wenstrup but Cincinnati hasn't had a republican mayor for years. For conservatives who oppose the streetcar idea and can't vote out Mallory, I say vote yes to issue 9 so the vote can occur. I see it, the less government, the better.

Antone that vote's this in is an idiot. They don't understand what's at stake and should learn the issues before they vote or open their mouth.

Very interesting article out there. But, I don't think a new reform is the solution for this.

Jack I understand your concern with the Covedale Gardens Park not being done. The short answer is because of the lack of support from the community leaders that are suppose to be representing us rather than fighting us to improve our neighborhood it has taken us much longer and hampered our ablity to raise money for this project. I am still working with the Covedale Neighborhood Association to get this project done, but until our community and city leaders quit playing politics with our neighborhood this project will take much longer than what it has needed to.

Why has the covedale gardens pocket park not shown any progress? Concrete blocks litter the lot and the pillars are half-built. If it takes so long for you to complete a pocket park why would we think you could do any better service on city counsel?

I think we need to promote the notion of awarding as many contracts as we can to local business owners. To me that is smart business for Cincinnati for three reasons. First it increases the chances of a business owned by a minority to get awarded a contract and second it allows Cincinnati to use our taxes dollars to support and increase jobs for our residents and busniess owners in Cincinnati. This will also allow us to recoup some of our tax money back because we will be get the taxes from the income they earn will working in Cincinnati.

While I agree that we need to have more minority and women owned businesses with contracts, unfortunately, it is unclear what can be done. It has been found to be illegal for the city to set aside quotas for minority contractors. Until last year, the city was in litigation over their set aside quotas for small businesses for the Convention Center expansion (they were sued by large contractors).

The city pays for a small business incubator which actively recruits prospective minority businesses.

So, I guess the question is what should be done? Mallory has suggested another study. That seems inadequate. So, what are the suggestions for increasing minority contracts without breaking the law?
